Prayer
Students are encouraged to pray throughout the day. We pray as a whole school every day of the week. When we hear sirens, we take a few moments to pray for the emergency workers and those who need help. Students who are struggling to focus or follow the rules are reminded to ask the Holy Spirit for help with the simple prayer "Come, Holy Spirit!" First graders are introduced to praying the rosary in October and may bring their own from home. We again review the rosary in May. We also participate in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on the first Friday of every month when school is in session.
We stress with students that prayer is both listening and talking to God. An important element of prayer is time spent in quite meditation and contemplation; taking the opportunity to hear God speak to us in our hearts.
The following is a list of prayers that we will recite together in class. An asterisk (*) indicates prayers that are expected to to be memorized.

*Sign of the Cross*
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. *Our Father* Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. *Hail Mary* Hail, Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. *Doxology (Glory Be)* Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen. *Grace Before Meals* Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen |
*Angel of God*
Angel of God my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here. Ever this day be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen. Prayer Before Snack Dear Jesus, Thank you for the food we eat. Please bless the boys and girls who never get a snack. Amen. Act of Contrition My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against You, whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In His Name, my God, have mercy. Amen. Fatima Prayer Oh My Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are most in need of Thy mercy. Amen. Note: We will also use the Adoration Prayer and O Sacrament Most Holy during first Friday adoration once a month. |
